Nuro
The spreadsheet you talk to, not the one you program.
Nuro is a spreadsheet that runs in the browser and is instructed in plain language rather than through formulas, menus and dialogs. You describe the outcome you want and it writes the structure, the formulas and the analysis into a real sheet, then explains what it did. Everything it produces stays as editable cells, so the work remains yours to change.
What it does
- Writes real formulas into cells, not a formula printed for you to copy. A formula engine of 57 functions, written here rather than assembled from a library.
- Runs SQL over the open sheet, builds live pivot tables and slicers, and draws 13 chart types as SVG.
- Opens from 69 templates across 11 categories, each with working formulas and realistic sample rows.
- Prepares Saudi VAT returns and Zakat figures from bank statements, ledgers and ZATCA e-invoices.
- Reads in English, Arabic, French and Spanish, and flips the whole layout to right to left in Arabic.
- Carries reading and attention settings across the application: a reading guide, letter and word spacing, row height, background tint and read aloud.
Saudi VAT and Zakat
Nuro turns a quarter of bank and invoice lines into a reviewed, ZATCA-shaped VAT return draft and a ten-sheet workbook an accountant can work in offline. Every total in that workbook is a formula reaching back to the transactions, so changing a category moves the return.
It prepares figures. It does not file them. The owner takes the approved numbers to ZATCA's own portal. Filing directly would need Fatoora clearance and a CSID, which is a certification exercise rather than a coding one.
Registration is compulsory above SAR 375,000 of taxable supplies over twelve months and voluntary above SAR 187,500. The standard rate has been 15 percent since July 2020. Zakat is charged at 2.5 percent on a Hijri year, or 2.577 percent on a Gregorian one, and is due 120 days after the year end.
What it reads
CSV and delimited text, Excel .xlsx, JSON, MT940, ISO 20022 CAMT.053, OFX and QFX, QIF, and ZATCA UBL 2.1 Phase Two e-invoices, including a zip archive holding a whole quarter of them. The old binary .xls and OpenDocument .ods are named and refused rather than half read, because a file read wrongly produces a plausible wrong return.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nuro file my VAT return with ZATCA?
No. It prepares the figures and produces a draft return and an accountant's workbook. You take the approved figures to ZATCA's portal yourself. Filing requires Fatoora clearance and a CSID.
What is the VAT registration threshold in Saudi Arabia?
SAR 375,000 of taxable supplies over twelve months makes registration compulsory. Above SAR 187,500 it is voluntary. Both count zero-rated supplies and exclude exempt ones.
How is Zakat calculated?
At 2.5 percent on a Hijri year, or 2.577 percent on a Gregorian one, which charges the same amount per elapsed day across a year that is about eleven days longer. It is annual and falls due 120 days after the year end, so it is not part of any VAT quarter.
Does Nuro work in Arabic?
Yes, including the ribbon, the menus, every dropdown and the contents of the built-in templates. The interface flips to right to left. The grid itself stays left to right on purpose.
How is this different from Excel with Copilot?
Excel and Google Sheets put the AI in a pane beside the grid, so you still work in cells and ranges and accept suggestions from the side. In Nuro the instruction bar is the interface, and what comes back is a sheet rather than a suggestion.
Who is Nuro for?
Saudi SMEs and founders who file VAT and Zakat, accountants and bookkeeping practices running several clients' books, finance teams, and students who understand the subject but not the spreadsheet syntax.
